Instead the anglophile director has made the much more personal, intimate A Better Life. But then, as Weitz explained, he "likes his burgers with some nice fresh lettuce". We panicked that we'd come to the interview unprepared but thankfully it turned out to be a metaphor, although his powerful, affecting new film is anything but 'lettuce'.
